Greg Gorian sent:  I just wanted to let you know about our great trip to Cedros.

We were on the Yellowtail tournament trip last Friday until yesterday. Unfortunately the island wide YT tournament got cancelled due to Covid but our group, including Jeff Flowers decided to have our own, $50.00 per angler tournament, winner take all $600.00.

Anyways, going into the last day the leader was Luke at 36 pounds. Fishing for the most part of our trip for YT was kind of slow compared to the 6 times we had been prior but the Calico’s were going crazy.  Big ones, even trolling mackerel would bite the hook.

The morning bite on the last day was slow and rough.  All the boats including ours went towards San Augustin.  It was not happening do we ended up about half-way between the salt depot and Natividad.  That is when the YT bite woke up along with other species.

I ended up with my best ever YT to date at 46.8 pounds on a mackerel that ended up winning the tourney. The $600.00 that I won went to my buddy Lalo .  He deserved it.  We fish with him every time we go because he’s a good captain, and a great guy.

By the way, this fish was the strongest, most violent fish I’d ever caught including 300+ pound blue marlin.  Of course, i’ve never caught a tuna over 50 pounds, so everything is relative but in my limited big fish angling, pound for pound, nothing fight’s like a YT
