Wow, what a great group of folks that joined Pete Gray of Let’s Talk Hook Up and myself on this fabulous fishing trip to the beautiful Baja village of Loreto. Great fun and laughter were had by all. We had 44 tournament anglers fishing on 22 pangas over two days producing 61 Yellowtail, included in the catch were the first place fish weighing in at 31.30 pounds followed by second place fish at 28.31 and third place 27.44. Anglers also accounted for good catches of Cabrilla and Pargo.
Our host hotel was the beautiful La Mision Hotel located on the boardwalk with great views of the Sea of
Cortez. The hospitality and service is second to none and on the evening of our arrival they hosted a cocktail party for our group. As usual, Maria Gamez the General Manager made sure that everything was set, in place and ready for our group.
A big GRACAIS you to our Loreto charter master Danny Talamontes, who organized our pangas, took lunch and drink orders, fish processing and assisted in the weighing of tournament fish. This man works tirelessly from before dawn
to after sunset to make sure everything is ready for us. Gracias Danny!
Baja Sur tourism board organized a hosted gathering for our group at the El Zopilote Brewery on our second evening in town and handed out Loreto caps to everyone in attendance. Fun, laughter, craft beers and appetizers were enjoyed by our group. I might add that besides great crafted beer they have an excellent menu as myself and some buddies had dined there the night before. If you’re ever in Loreto make sure to stop by for a cold one and som
e good food!
On our third night we held our awards dinner at the hotel with a fabulous fish fry, we provided the fish and the Chef Ivan prepared it in various ways, seared, battered, Veracruzano and BBQ’D two whole 20+ pound yellowtail on the grill. Along with various salsas, refried beans and tortillas topped off the meal. Damn! What a feast!
Our top three winners were as follows:
First place biggest Yellowtail went to Bill Hartman with a 31.30 yellowtail.
Second place went to Mark Gorian with 28.32 yellowtail.
Third Place went to Curt Mitchell with a 27.44 yellowtail.
Along with a trophy they each angler won a rod and reel outfit, tackle bag, assortment of lures and other tackle, congratulations gentlemen!
