Well I just returned from Lake El Salto the Mexican bass lake just north of the resort city of Mazatlan. This was our 6th Let’s Talk Hook Up/Cass Tours group trip to this world class large mouth bass lake. Once again we stayed at Bill Chapman Sr. Lake El Salto Lodge and as expected we had great food and service and the lodge manager Carlos was a gracious host. Our group consisted of 18 anglers fishing on 9 boats that came from Florida, Kansas, Texas and California. What a group of fun loving fishermen, it was great hanging out at the lodge after a day of fishing enjoying a few cocktails and talking about the days fishing.

On our first day of fishing I noticed that the water level of the lake was higher than normal which resulted in a slow day of fishing for most of us though a few  big fish were caught especially a jumbo 10.7 caught by Ron Johnson of Florida who caught the fish on a chatter bait he took big fish honors for the trip. Though this day did not produce numbers it did produce some nice 4 to 7lb bass.

On our second day of fishing the fishing did improve not only in numbers but again on some quallty fish of 5 to 8lbs. I caught my biggest fish of the trip, a nice 7.4lb bass that hit on a pumpkin Senko. All most all the boats doubled what they had caught on the first day.

On the 3rd day which was our last day of fishing we once again saw the number raised with just about everyone doubling their count from the second day along with some fish up to 9lbs. I’m sure that any bass fisherman would have raved about the bass fishing we experienced and is way better than what most bass lakes in North America can produce.

Top producing lures this trip were the 5” and 6” Senkos wacky rigged in pumpkin with red flake and watermelon with green flake, 8” lizard in pumpkin Texas rigged. Not many bass were taken on crank baits.

You never know about El Salto, last year the lake was on fire and we had up 200 plus fish per boat per days, who knows what next year will bring. If you would like to join our group next year the dates will be Feb. 10 to 14, 2023. Call me at 951-415 2505 or email me at fishwithcass@gmail.com for more info or to sign up……Cass
