“Tony Reyes Fishing Tours Adventure” is the perfect name for this trip. It was 2016 when I first
hosted for Lets Talk Hookup. They all have been wonderful memories. I b
elieve the word “tours” is in the
title because when you stop and fish the islands in the Sea of Cortez you have nothing but
lasting memories, and hopefully, lots of fish.
On this adventure we fished 5 different islands. Starti
ng south of San Felipe, around 200 miles,
our first stop was off San Francisquito. We then fished and island hopped our way back to
Gonzaga Bay.
The tour begins around mid-day Sunday and you are usually back to San Felipe by Friday
evening. Breakfast is served around 5:30 AM with pangas departing when you are ready. Back
to the mother ship by around 11 AM for lunch/siesta and then back to your next fishing spot by
3 PM, finishing the day before darkness settles. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular!
Throw in a full moon (we had one) and it’s a photographer’s delight!!
The variety of dinners was very creative. Wednesday night is traditionally carne asada night
when Chef Marco and Chef Carlos set up tables on the stern with all the traditional fresh
toppings that made it a gastronomical delight. Lots of folks commented on the fresh and
Some highlights of the fishing were yellowtail 19, 21, 24, 27 and the big one of 31 lbs. (pretty good for
so early in the season). My favorite species to catch is cabrilla and boy do they fight. The
average was 3 to 6 lbs. with 17, 18 and 20 pounders landed. Also in the mix were lots of sierras,
pinto bass, whitefish and some lingcod. A nice 15 lb. sheephead was caught and used for
ceviche. Top that off with a 60 lb. black sea bass and a 37 lb. baqueta. All good eating fish.
Upon returning to San Felipe the crew filleted all the fish, separating each pangas catch.
Tony and his longtime crew go out of their way to make sure your adventure is memorable.
They normally do around 31 to 32 trips a season. We have another Lets Talk Hookup Trip Planned in April 2025. For your experience, call Longfin Tackle in
