Let’s Talk HookUp Charter on the Royal Polaris Recap
By Wayne Kotow
The Let’s Talk HookUp 8 day charter aboard the famous Royal Polaris out of Fisherman’s Landing in San Diego recently returned on Dec 18th, just in time for Christmas. The 30 anglers were treated to a “trip of a lifetime” according to Wayne Kotow, Charter Master for the trip. “We had the most epic bites with outstanding quality. Captain Trevon put us into position to catch all you could ask for.”
The trip left on Dec. 10th with a new group of anglers. We had the most excellent bait of mixed anchovies, sardines and a few mackerel. The captain introduced the crew and held the safety briefing. We cleared the harbor and he gathered everyone into the galley for the tackle seminar. We handed out the awesome LTHU giveaways from sponsors like Shimano, AFTCO, Seaguar, Gamakatsu, and Costa.
Meals were prepared by Pearle and Chris and were always delicious and filling. You will not go hungry on one of these trips with 3 full meals and 2 snacks every day. You probably will gain a few pounds.
We assembled tackle and relaxed. Our first stop was the next day for mixed tuna and yellowtail. We kept heading south and got into a 100 tuna day. We continued south got into a wide open yellowtail bite. As we continued driving, we caught a few wahoo on the troll but unfortunately, none hit our jigs. The next day was an epic 200 fish tuna bite with fish in the 70-110# range. It was so wide open that we had to stop anglers from fishing a couple of times to clear the deck and regroup. After everyone got their fill of tuna, we explored for other species as we hid from some wind and swell as we worked our way up the coast.
We had white elephant raffles and miscellaneous contests while fishing. We had a special raffle for Captain Rollo Kid’s at Sea with a Rod and Shimano Tranx 500 from Fisherman’s Landing Tackle and a Gift Certificate from Royal Polaris. We also had the largest yellowtail jackpot with proceeds going to Captain Rollo Kid’s at Sea.
In all, everyone had a spectacular time and caught all the fish they wanted. We new friendships and have wonderful stories to tell. We cannot thank the captain and
crew of the Royal Polaris enough for the outstanding and professional way they treated everyone on this trip.
Memories of a lifetime.
