Three words come to mind when booking a trip with Cedros Sportfishing: adventure, fishing, and variety.
Let’s Talk Hook-Up sponsors two of these unforgettable trips each year, and the adventure begins the moment you arrive at the CBX Border Crossing in Otay Mesa, CA. Rosie greets each of the 12 anglers with a personalized packet containing your FMM visa, Mexican fishing license, boarding passes, and CBX passes. A quick 15-minute stroll across the skybridge lands you in Mexico, where you’re welcomed again and guided to a private gate to relax before your scenic two-hour flight to Cedros Island.
Since arrival time in Cedros is usually before noon, you can even opt for a half-day of fishing for a nominal fee. Three full days of fishing await. Each day starts with breakfast at 5 AM, with lunch, snacks, and drinks provided on the spacious pangas, and wraps up with a hearty dinner at 6 PM.
Variety is the name of the game. Each morning, Oscar – your ever-attentive guide – asks, “What do you want to target today?” The pangas are roomy, with large casting de
cks an
d plenty of space for three anglers to fish comfortably. On our recent t
rip, some highlights included yellowtail up to 41 lbs., halibut (39 lbs.), white sea bass, sheepshead, whitefish, triggerfish (perfect for ceviche!), mackerel, and my personal favorite, calico bass. Wayne, Bucky, and I caught 199 calicos in a single day! One afternoon, we had an unforgettable two-hour session in the boiler rocks and kelp off Punta Colorado – words just don’t do it justice. I was also lucky enough to land a 7.17 lb. calico – those fish fight!
If you need gear, don’t worry – the resort has a well-stocked tackle shop with rental rods, reels, and all the terminal tackle you’ll need. Just ask Oscar. Laundry services are also available for a nominal fee.
You certainly won’t go hungry on this trip. Flo runs a tight ship i
n the kitchen, turning out delicious meals, with the ribeye steak and rock lobster dinner being a highlight you won’t forget. Everything is cooked to perfection and served in generous portions.
Yes – you can bring your catch home, too. Two years ago, Rosie had a top-notch fish processing house built on-site. Each species is filleted, vacuum-packed in 5 mm bags, labeled, frozen, and ready to travel home in soft coolers. Edwin, “The Superstar” cutter, makes sure every fillet is perfect. Once you’re back in the States, just transfer your catch into your own cooler – your adventure lives on long after the trip ends.
Rosie handles every detail and is ready to answer any question you might have. Give her a call at 619-772-7570 or visit www.cedrossportfishing.com.
Let your adventure begin!
