We knew we were in for something special the second got off the plane at the Sandspit Airport.  A beautiful 70 degree day with no wind.  As our host Valerie Hoperich gather up the group to take the short ride to the lodge she said fishing was good and the weather was great.  She was not wrong.

After Breakfast the morning we headed to the fishing grounds.

The group on my boat wanted to catch Salmon.  It became very apparent that we would need to release fish or we would be limited in a few hours.

The wind was up a bit outside , so headed to the lodge a little early to relax and have some of the lodges great appetizers.

Day two everyone was very excited to get back on the water. Most decided to take the short walk from the lodge to the harbor.

Again the water was flat and we were going for rockfish and halibut on the second day.

Once again, our captain Nathan placed us directly on the fish. In no time at all limits of rockfish and a nice halibut blessed our boat. Yes we caught salmon and ling cod too!

Day three my wife wanted to visit the neighboring island and visit the Cultural Center with some of the ladies that came.

So three of us decided to limit on halibut and finish the salmon limit for the trip.

It was a magical experience. 20 pound plus salmon were chewing lingcod swim baits. We caught out limits Halibut to 70 pounds and salmon to 30 pounds. Plus sensational ling cod fishing!   We released oversized halibut and lingcod over 40 pounds. They are the breeders that keep this fantastic fishery great.

The fish were all  fileted, vacuum packed  put in 50 boxes so we were able to bring them home as checked luggage on the plane.

Queen Charlotte Safaris is a fantastic place.  Valerie Hoperich’s attention to detail is truly the reason everyone has a memorable trip.  The food, the lodging, the boat and the experience are as good as it gets.  If you want to join our trips next year book now- they are both almost full.  July 28 to August 3 hosted by Cory Sanden, and  August 3 to 7 hosted by Pete Gray and Harold Davis.
